SUMMARY OF COMPUTER HISTORY

1822 – Charles Babbage who was the inventor for Start and Reboot commands invented a mathematic calculation device by using Law of Logarithm in which it became the foundation for development of modern computer.

1937 – Dr. John Atanasoft and Clifford Berry invented the first electronic computer known as ABC.

1946 – Dr. John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert completed a digital electronic computer weighted at 30 tonne and sized at 30 ft x 50 ft. containing 18,000 vacuum tubes. It was the beginning of era for first generation of computer.

1958 – Computer using transistor was introduced as its second generation.

1964 – Computer with Circuit Control in IC (Integrated Chip) Chip was introduced. IBM System 360 was the first computer with this technology. It was the beginning of the third generation of computer.

1970 – Computer evolved into its fourth generation when LSI chip (Large Scale Integration) was introduced. For comparison, the 1965’s chip only had 1,000 circuits, while LSI contained 15,000 circuits.

1975 – Robert Metcalfe invented Ethernet; the first LAN (Local Area Networks) and it is still being used today.

1981 – IBM introduced the first Personal Computer (PC).

1983 – Microsoft introduced Windows: i.e. a GUI interface for MS-DOS. It was used together with IBM PC.

1984 – IBM introduced a personal computer known as PC AT (Advanced Technology) in which it used Intel 80286 Microprocessor.

1989 – Intel 80486 Microprocessor was the first microprocessor equipped with 1 million transistors.
