Blablabla ...IT in Malaysian Construction (as what I see it)

We have numbers of modern building in Malaysia..but we built it in the traditional way.

The American utilized IT to conquer the world. And we also heard the Arab terrorist plan their mission through Google Earth, in Malaysia IT is more popular for chatting. Still in Malaysia people don’t know that talking trough Yahoo Messenger is cheaper compare to hand phone. Or they don’t even now we able to sent our voice through it.
From what I know PDRM now is on process to set up an Operation Unit with the help of GIS technology. (I heard about GIS since 1990’s, why only now?) They also plan to put CCTV at several of strategic location in order to minimize the crime statistic. That is the Police Department. An important agency we expect to provide security of the Malaysian. An they still in the planning stage, when will they implement it?
I plan not to touch on the Government Website that’s are not well maintain, otherwise this forum will be endless. But I am proud to have a country that implement E-Government, shows that we are an educated nation.

Why is Malaysia is so slow in implementing IT?

Lets talk to the required topic. IT in Construction. I mean in Malaysian Construction Industry.
If I can imagine all the Construction Site that I had visited, what came out from my mind is crowded space, with Indonesian, kongsi house, small cabin as an office and last but not lease corruption. IT, the most advance site is only have an internet connection so the staff able to receive email from the main office.

Sound so negative. Maybe I did not have any experience working with Japanese. But lets talk about Malaysia.
Design stage, yes we draw with latest software (original software), we can email it to other party for coordination. But we stop until that level.
Start from the Local Authorities Approval, we still have to submit manually. We cant even check the submission status through internet.
Tendering Stage is still using the traditional method.

Implementation Stage, contractors are using good planning software to schedule a project, but it stop until the work program has been presented. Yet we still need a good Project Manager to conduct a project following the work program.

Even site in Putrajaya is still using the traditional method of site management.

I still believe that IT can help to ease up our task. I also believe that a construction process can be expedite be using IT. I believe that we can control the material use, the movement of workers, the quantity of work done and ensuring the safety of construction site through IT.
Suppose that the massive paper works to be done in managing a construction can be minimized by using a latest way of doing it.
What I know is time cause money in construction. So cant IT give some solution?

The major problem is Malaysian Construction Industry real player is the old time contractor. So it is not that easy to change the traditional method to something that we all never know. But how if every company have its own IT department. So some body will start think about IT.
It is not impossible of having E- Authority Approval, to have a computerize Tendering Process and involvement of IT in implementing the site works. We also can solve the travelling cost by using IT.
But to have all that in Malaysia, IT experts must involve in the Malaysian Construction Industry. The traditional way of Malaysian construction can be change through having a lot of educated personnel in the industry.

IT will be able to bring maximum profit to the industry, you believe that? So we have to be serius about it.

I still believe that we can do something, although it is not easy as same as difficult to have workers wearing a safety helmet on site.
